General Education Meeting Trinity Health (St. Mary’s Livonia)
We at NAMI Metro are delighted to have Cynthia Burton from the University of Michigan be our special guest speaker Tuesday, November 4, 2025. The topic of her presentation will be:
“The Brain in Balance: Tools for Thinking Better with Schizophrenia and Other Mental Health Conditions”
Dr. Burton is a board-certified clinical neuropsychologist and assistant clinical professor at the University of Michigan. Her work focuses on recovery-oriented cognitive interventions for people with mental health conditions like schizophrenia and bipolar disorder (for example, cognitive training, brain stimulation, workplace social skills training). Ultimately, she aims to understand the neuropsychological impairments associated with these mental health conditions, how they affect daily activities like work, school, and relationships, and develop treatments to improve cognitive skills.
Dr. Burton earned her doctorate degree in clinical psychology from the SDSU/UCSD Joint Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology, with a focus in neuropsychology. She completed her clinical internship at the VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System and her postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Michigan, then joined the UM faculty in 2018.
